Webhook

A webhook is an automated message sent from one app to another when a specific event happens, like a text notification for a new order.

How it works

It works by having one application (the sender) send an HTTP POST request with event data to a unique URL you provide (the receiver). This is a more efficient and real-time alternative to having an app constantly check or 'poll' another service for updates.

Examples

  • 1.A project management tool sends a message to a Slack channel whenever a new task is assigned.
  • 2.A payment processor like Stripe notifies your accounting software the moment a customer's invoice is paid.
  • 3.A form submission on your website triggers an email to be sent to your sales team via a service like Mailchimp.
