REST API

A REST API is a standardized way for different software applications to communicate over the internet, using simple web commands like 'GET' to retrieve data or 'POST' to send it.

How it works

It works by treating everything as a resource (like a user or a product) with a unique web address (URL). Clients use standard HTTP methods to perform actions on these resources, making it a simple, stateless, and widely adopted architecture for building web services and connecting modern applications.

Examples

  • 1.A weather app on your phone fetching the latest forecast from a remote server.
  • 2.A Shopify store using a payment gateway's API to securely process a customer's credit card transaction.
  • 3.A mobile app loading your social media feed by requesting data from the platform's backend.
