OKR

OKR stands for Objectives and Key Results, a goal-setting framework used by teams and individuals to define clear, measurable goals and track their outcomes.

How it works

It works by setting an ambitious Objective (the qualitative goal) and linking it to 2-5 Key Results (the quantitative metrics that measure progress toward that objective). This framework matters because it creates alignment, focus, and measurable accountability across an organization, ensuring everyone is working toward the same priorities.

Examples

  • 1.A marketing team's Objective might be 'Become the top brand in our category,' with Key Results like 'Increase website traffic by 30%' and 'Achieve a 15% market share.'
  • 2.A software developer's Objective could be 'Improve application reliability,' measured by Key Results such as 'Reduce critical bug reports by 50%' and 'Achieve 99.9% uptime for the quarter.'
  • 3.A company-wide Objective of 'Deliver an exceptional customer experience' might have Key Results including 'Increase Net Promoter Score (NPS) to +50' and 'Reduce average customer support resolution time to under 2 hours.'
