Monorepo

A monorepo is a single, centralized code repository that stores the source code for multiple projects, applications, or services, along with their shared libraries and dependencies.

How it works

Instead of managing many separate repositories, teams keep all their code in one place, which simplifies dependency management and large-scale refactoring. This approach is common in large tech companies because it improves code sharing, enforces consistency, and streamlines tooling and CI/CD pipelines.

Examples

  • 1.A company storing its main web application, mobile app backend, and shared UI component library all in one Git repository.
  • 2.An AI team managing a suite of related microservices for model training, inference APIs, and data processing tools from a single codebase.
  • 3.Developing a product where the frontend, backend, and infrastructure-as-code configurations are all versioned together.
