Inference

Inference is the process where an AI model uses what it has learned to generate outputs, like text, images, or predictions, based on new inputs.

How it works

It's the 'runtime' phase of AI, where a trained model applies its knowledge to real-world data. This is computationally intensive and is what happens when you ask a chatbot a question or generate an image from a text description. Its speed and cost are critical factors for deploying AI applications.

Examples

  • 1.A chatbot like ChatGPT generating an answer to your question.
  • 2.An image generator like DALL-E creating a picture from your text prompt.
  • 3.A fraud detection system analyzing a new credit card transaction to flag it as suspicious.
