Docker

Docker is a platform that packages software and all its dependencies into standardized units called containers, which can run reliably on any computer.

How it works

It works by isolating an application and its environment (like libraries and system tools) into a lightweight, portable container image. This solves the common problem of software working on one machine but failing on another due to different setups, making development and deployment much more consistent and efficient.

Examples

  • 1.A developer can package a complex web application with its specific database and programming language versions to ensure it runs identically on their laptop, a teammate's computer, and a cloud server.
  • 2.A data scientist can create a container with all the necessary machine learning libraries and tools, allowing others to reproduce their analysis or model training with a single command.
