Best Alternatives to X Media Downloader in 2025
X Media Downloader is a handy Chrome and Edge extension for pulling images and videos from X (Twitter) profiles in bulk, with free image downloads and video downloads reserved for Pro users. But it isn't the only option, and depending on whether you need more platforms, better video handling, or a free all-in-one tool, one of these alternatives may fit your workflow better.
4K Video Downloader+
A desktop app that handles X/Twitter media alongside YouTube, TikTok, and dozens of other sites. It offers higher-quality video downloads, playlist and channel batch modes, and a free tier that includes video downloads, making it a strong pick if video quality matters more than staying in the browser.
JDownloader 2
A free, open-source download manager that can batch-grab media links from X profiles via link crawling and clipboard monitoring. It's more technical to set up than a one-click extension, but it's completely free, supports video downloads without a paywall, and handles large queues with resume support.
Gallery-dl
A command-line tool built specifically for archiving media from X and many other sites. It supports profile timelines, media tabs, retweets, and filtering by date or media type, and it's free and scriptable—ideal for power users who want repeatable, automated bulk downloads without a Pro subscription.
Media Downloader (open-source browser extension)
A free, open-source extension that adds download buttons across multiple social platforms, including X. It covers both images and videos without a paid tier, so it's a direct substitute if the Pro video restriction in X Media Downloader is your main pain point.
TwDownload / X media saver web tools
Browser-based services like TwDownload let you paste a post or profile link and download images or videos without installing anything. They're limited for large-scale profile archiving but are free, cross-platform, and useful for occasional one-off downloads on devices where you can't add extensions.
DownThemAll!
A general-purpose bulk download extension for Chrome and Firefox that can capture all media links on an X media page and download them in one queue. It's free, works on any site, and gives fine-grained control over filters and naming, though it requires a bit more manual setup than a purpose-built X tool.
yt-dlp
The most capable free command-line downloader, with solid X/Twitter support for videos and images via profile and post URLs. It's actively maintained, supports cookies for logged-in access, and can archive entire profiles—best suited to users comfortable with a terminal who want no subscription fees.
X Media Downloader is a convenient one-click option for Chrome and Edge users, but its Pro paywall for video downloads and single-platform focus leave room for alternatives. Choose 4K Video Downloader+ or Media Downloader for free video support with a friendlier interface, JDownloader 2 or DownThemAll! for general bulk downloading, and Gallery-dl or yt-dlp if you want free, scriptable, large-scale archiving of X profiles. For quick one-off saves, web-based tools like TwDownload are the lowest-friction choice.
